Installed on July 7th 2013 at 4000 meters of altitude inside Deosai National Park, in Karakorum (Pakistan) the first climatic environmental monitoring station developed by EvK2CNR, in cooperation with CNR, inside PON I-AMICA. It is the first station of the UNEP-ABC network that was installed in high altitude in Pakistan, which uses first this climatic environmental monitoring station implemented as part of the National Operational Program I-AMICA financed by MIUR and the European Union.

Less than two months before its presentation which was held on May 17th at the Scientific & Technological Lab EVK2CNR in Naples, on July 8th measurements for ozone started, dimensional distribution of atmospheric particulate and its absorption coefficient (from which black carbon concentration is derived), in addition to meteorological parameters.

Black carbon and ozone are climate-changing and polluting composites: they are considered “Short Lived Climate Forcers”, which means they are composites that can favor atmosphere heating on a regional scale and (in particular dark carbon particles once they deposit on glaciers) an influence on their fusion. Information on the dimensions of the particulate allows verifying the presence of dust transported from dry areas which characterize the continental part of Asia.

The performances of the first 36 hours of measurements from when the tools were started, in the evening of July 8th, show a behavior that can be compared to the concentrations observed in other areas at high altitude, even if these are just the first data. From the evening of July 9th the atmosphere presented some dust, higher thin particulate and carbon particulate concentrations were present when measurement started.
These are the first observation data coming from Karakorum, more than 4000 m elevation, where the is no historical values which were already measured, and they are very important to define how these composites behave and to monitor each of their variation due to anthropic or natural processes.
