Support for the establishment of a PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) for buffalo dairy farms thanks to the development of innovative sensor for monitoring the intrusion of the salt wedge in the coastal area.

During the I-AMICA research activities in the area of the mouth of the river Volturno (Castel Volturno, Campania region), there has been a particular concern to farmers and local ranchers related to the environment. This resulted in an excellent working relationship that favoured important actions in the area thanks to the activities carried out under this PON project. “In fact – says Dr. Vincenzo di Fiore, IAMC-CNR Institute and coordinator of this research activity – is being finalized an agreement with the local producers in order to constantly monitor the quality of soil and groundwater such as to optimize the crop and livestock.

Therefore, it will be possible to provide support for the establishment of a PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) for buffalo dairy farms to value the area and create agritourism and cultural paths connected with the territory and its history”. In this manner, the information acquired by the National Research Council under the PON will be a key point of this action.
