Eboli Borgo Cioffi – Sito agro-forestale

Site description

The permanent CNR-ISAFOM site in Eboli – Borgo Cioffi (Salerno) is finalized to research and monitoring of interactions between agriculture and atmosphere. The infrastructure has national and European relevance.
The station has been active since July 2002 and presents new characteristics for an integrated approach to the interactions among terrestrial and atmospheric ecosystems, through the analytic determination of local and regional balance of nitrogen and carbon and air quality, with connections to sampling and aerial measurements.

Monitoring site is situated on Sele plain, 25 km SE from Salerno. The sea is 5 km SO. Experimental field covers a surface of 18 hectares and hosts irrigable rotation cultivation. The site has been installed on July 2002 and in August 2002 it became part of the global FluxNet network. From 2004 to 2009 it became part of the European project called CarboEurope and from 2006 to 2011 in NitroEurope. The cultivated species are corn, alfalfa, Lolium rigidum Gaud and fennel.

Research objectives start from budget quantification of carbon exchanged between atmosphere and earth ecosystems and create a parameter of physiologic response according to the climatic and anthropic variables, and lastly to spatial observations and consideration of future scenarios
